About this Test
Absolute Eosinophil Count (AEC) measures the number of eosinophils, a type of white blood cell involved in allergic responses and defence against some parasitic infections. It may be requested when investigating allergy-related symptoms, asthma, certain skin conditions, suspected parasitic infection or an unexplained change in the white blood cell count. AEC can be raised for several reasons, so the result should be interpreted with the complete blood count, symptoms and clinical history.
